Deogarh: Four persons have been arrested in connection with the alleged kidnapping a six-year-old girl in Odisha’s Deogarh town, police informed on Sunday.
The arrested have been identified as Himanshu Narang, Deepak Nayak, Rohit Patra and Maheswar Sagadia of Deogarh district. A car used in the crime, two motorcycles and four mobile phones have been seized from their possession.
“The four accused plotted to kidnap the girl to demand Rs 2 crore as ransom. They had planned to divide the amount among them equally and lead a luxurious life,” said Deogarh SP Pradyumna Kumar Mishra.
The girl, daughter of an established cloth merchant of Deogarh, was kidnapped while she was returning home from tuition classes with her grandmother on December 18 evening. Police got a clue from a hotel at Bargaon in Sundargarh district that night about two men with a girl asking for a hotel room. The hotelier denied them room for not submitting identity proofs and called the local police after watching the girl’s kidnapping on TV.
Following which, multiple police vehicles with sirens blaring then fanned out across Bargaon and its periphery, making it difficult for the abductors to escape. Apprehending arrest, the kidnappers, who had switched cars, abandoned the child near a road over bridge around 4 am and fled.
The girl was found crying near a bridge by a woman, who then informed her parents and police. She was then handed over to her family.
