Berhampur: Ganjam was the first district to penalise spitting in public and seal borders. The administration took every step to keep coronavirus at bay and it did succeed in doing so till the return of migrants from Surat.
On May 2, Ganjam reported its maiden case when two Surat-returned youth tested positive for the virus. The following day, another Surat returnee was found to have contracted the infection.

One more case was detected in Ganjam on Tuesday (May 5) and this 18-year-old youth had also returned from Surat recently.
With this new case, the affected tally in Odisha has gone up to 177. The virus has so far claimed two lives in the state while 60 have recovered from the disease.
