Four From Odisha Among 150 Rly Stations To Get FSSAI’s ‘Eat Right Station’ Certification
Bhubaneswar: Food regulator FSSAI has awarded ‘Eat Right Station’ certification to 150 railway stations, including four in Odisha, for ensuring safe, hygienic and nutritious food options for passengers.
The railway stations to have won the certification are Bhubaneswar, Puri, Cuttack and Jharsuguda.
Official sources said the stations were evaluated on water quality, cleanliness, sanitation, pest control, register maintenance and food item inspection. The process involves rigorous audits of food vendors, training of food handlers under FSSAI’s food safety training and certification (FoSTaC) programme, adherence to strict hygiene and sanitation protocols and efforts to raise awareness among individuals to make informed food choices.
This initiative under the Eat Right India movement led by FSSAI not only benefits passengers but also empowers food vendors at railway stations. By adhering to food safety and hygiene standards, they gain credibility and attract more customers, ultimately boosting their livelihoods, the sources added.
Apart from the railway stations, 28 campuses, including hospitals, educational institutions, state PSUs and Aahar centres, in Odisha have been certified as ‘eat right campus’. The campuses include AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, Capital Hospital, Rourkela Government Hospital, SUM Hospital, Apollo Hospital, Kalinga Hospital, Care Hospitals, IIT-Bhubaneswar, IIM-Sambalpur, OMC Ltd, Krushi Bhavan, CTTC, NISER, NIT-Rourkela and Government ITI, Bhubaneswar.
