Cuttack: At least four courts have been designated as special courts with requisite infrastructure for trial of pending cases against present and former MPs and MLAs, the state government informed the Orissa High Court on Thursday.

In an affidavit filed in response to a petition, additional secretary of Home department said additional district judge courts at Bhubaneswar and Berhampur and magisterial courts at Bhubaneswar and Sundargarh are ready to function as special courts. Ten more such courts would be created after receiving the proposal from the High Court, he added.

Earlier, the government had decided to set up special courts, one each in three revenue divisions and 11 courts of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) for trial of pending cases against the MPs and MLAs.

“The Law department has been requested to engage special public prosecutors for each designated special court and all district SPs have been told to appoint additional SPs as nodal officers to ensure service of summons to the witnesses and execution of warrants,” a news agency quoted the affidavit as mentioning.
