Paris: French authorities has summoned Elon Musk for a voluntary interview as cybercrime police raided X’s Paris offices on February 3. The actions target allegations of platform misuse amid a long-running investigation. Prosecutors aim to question Musk and former CEO Linda Yaccarino on April 20.
According to sources, Paris prosecutors’ cybercrime unit, with Europol support, searched X’s French headquarters. The operation focuses on potential complicity in crimes like Holocaust denial, child pornography promotion, and far-right content amplification. Authorities allege X’s algorithms aided political interference in France.
Launched in January 2025, the probe examines X’s algorithm for organized data tampering and fraudulent extraction. Complaints from lawmakers and officials claim foreign influence via biased promotion. Recent expansions include scrutiny of X’s AI chatbot Grok and sexual deepfakes of women and minors.
Musk, X’s owner, and Yaccarino — who resigned last July — face summons as de facto and legal managers during the period. No arrests occurred; interviews are voluntary but could lead to formal charges. X has not commented publicly.
This escalates tensions between France and tech giants over content moderation and EU regulations. Similar probes targeted X previously for data issues. Impacts may include fines or operational curbs in Europe.
