Bhubaneswar: Income Tax (I-T) department officials interrogated con woman Hansita Abhilipsa and her aide Anil Mohanty inside Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar on Monday in connection with the assets amassed by them allegedly through fraudulent means.
Sources said two teams of I-T department visited Jharpada jail grilled the two regarding their illegal property.
The interrogation is part of the exercise to obtain further details about the political connections, financial dealings of the two. The two allegedly amassed huge property and cash by indulging in illegal activities.
Earlier, the I-T department officials had conducted raids at 16 locationsin Bhubaneswar, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Jharkhand, and New Delhi reportedly belonging to the con couple. During those extensive raids, properties worth hundreds of crores as well as benami assets worth Rs 58 crore were identified and subsequently seized by the IT Department.
In Bhubaneswar, the searches were conducted at the offices of the duo in the Raghunathpur area, Anil Mohanty’s home in the SBT Apartments, and another residence in Unit 8 locality.
After their arrest in December last year, several startling information emerged about the two who duped several high-profile personalities, primarily targeting rich businessmen, those in the mining and construction sectors, by posing as the daughter and son-in-law of the principal secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Further, links between Hansita and several politicians surfaced.
A dedicated team of the Commissionerate Police had taken Hansita and Anil on remand on January 24 to probe allegations of human trafficking operations involving young women.
Probe by the police indicated that the two used to arrange ‘sex workers’ for influential persons, businessmen, and politicians to facilitate business agreements or secure political leverage as part of their modus operandi.
