Bhubaneswar: After Cuttack and Ganjam district collectors in Odisha, Development Commissioner Pradeep Jena has been targeted by cyber frauds to collect money by using his fake WhatsApp account.
After coming to know about the fake account, Jena has informed the people in tweets on Friday. As in the case of Cuttack collector, the fraudster is seeking financial help from the WhatsApp account having Jena’s profile photograph.
“Someone using my photograph in the WhatsApp profile is sending WhatsApp messages to some people asking for financial help. I would like to inform all the the mobile number 7320937877 from which such messages are being sent does not belong to me. It is a fake WhatsApp account,” the IAS officer tweeted.
Jena also asked cyber crime police to file a case and take action against the ‘thug’ involved in the fraud. “May kindly inform police to act. I’m also asking Cyber Crime Police of Odisha Govt to immediately initiate a criminal case and find the thug and take stern action to prevent such fraudulent WhatsApp messages,” he said in another tweet.
It may be noted that tehsildar of Hinjili in Ganjam district Prabhat Kumar Parida had filed a police complaint after getting text messages from a fake WhatsApp account having name and profile picture of the district collector Dibyajyoti Parida on Tuesday.
Last week, somebody had opened a fake WhatsApp account of Cuttack district collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani and was seeking money in his name.
