Now Fake WhatsApp Account Opened In Name Of Odisha’s Ganjam Collector

Berhampur: Another IAS officer has been targeted by cyber frauds in Odisha. This time, a fake WhatsApp account has been opened by unidentified frauds in the name of Ganajm district collector Dibyajyoti Parida.

The matter came to light when Hinjili tehsildar Prabhat Kumar Parida received a text message from WhatsApp account having name and profile picture of the collector on Tuesday. In the first message from the fake account, the collector asked the tehsildar, “How are you?” It was followed by several messages from the same number. A call also came to the tehsildar from the fake WhatsApp number.

Suspecting that something was wrong, the tehsildar sent the screen shots of the messages to the collector. But the collector said he had not sent any message to the tehsildar and both realised that somebody had created the WhatsApp account by fraudulent means.

The tehsildar  filed a complaint at Cyber and Economic Offences Police Station in Berhampur. The police have registered a case and investigation is on.

It may be noted that somebody had opened a fake WhatsApp account of Cuttack district collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani and was seeking money in his name last week.
