Berhampur: A couple has been duped of Rs 3 lakh by two fraudsters on the pretext of selling gold coin in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
According to a complaint filed by the couple, Bijay Kumar Samantaray and his wife Reena of Shantinagar Sahi near Chhatrapur town in the district, the fraudsters used to sell vegetables by moving door to door in their area. As the Bengali-speaking fraudsters were coming to their doorstep regularly for two weeks, the couple developed a rapport with them.
A few days ago, the fraudsters told Reena that one of their relatives had a gold coin worth around Rs 5-6 lakh and wanted to sell it. They also assured her that they can convince their relative to bring down the cost to Rs 3 lakh.
After Reena consulted her husband, the couple decided to buy the gold coin and informed the fraudsters. On Monday, the fraudsters gave the gold coin to the couple near a rest house at DRDA Chhak and took Rs 3 lakh from them.
Later, when the couple examined the gold coin, they found it to be fake. Realising that they had been duped, Bijay and Reena started searching for the fraudsters but failed to trace them.
Finally, the couple filed a complaint in this regard at Chhatrapur police station. The police have registered a case and started investigation.
