Fresh Cyclonic Circulation Over Bay May Bring More Rains To Odisha Next Week

Bhubaneswar: Another cyclonic circulation is likely to form over eastcentral Bay of Bengal next week with west-northwestwards movement towards North Bay of Bengal, according to North Indian Ocean Extended Range Outlook for Cyclogenesis issued by India Meteorological Department (IMD).

“There is also a likelihood of formation of another cyclonic circulation over eastcentral Bay of Bengal during later part of week 1 (September 15-21) with west-northwestwards movement towards North Bay of Bengal in the beginning of week 2 (September 22-28).”

It further said that the existing low pressure area over North Odisha/it’s remnant cyclonic circulation is likely to move west-northwestwards over central parts of India during next 3-4 days and emerge into northeast and adjoining eastcentral Arabian Sea off Gujarat coast. “It is likely to intensify marginally into a depression over the same region and move westwards away from Indian coast,” it added.

The IMD, in its Friday morning bulletin, informed that the well-marked low pressure area, which lies over north Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood, is likely to move across Madhya Pradesh during next 24 hours. It has also forecast light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorm and lightning with isolated heavy rainfall in Odisha on September 15,18 and 19.

On Thursday, the MeT office had issued yellow warning of heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) for isolated places in Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh on September 15. While there is warning during the subsequent 2 days, heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) may occur at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Ganjam on September 18. Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has also been sounded for one or two places in  Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda and Puri districts on the day.

IMD, Bhubaneswar, scientist Umashankar Das had also told the media that the intensity of rain is likely to increase in the state from September 19.
