Bhubaneswar: The intensity of rain may increase in Odisha with the likely formation of a fresh low pressure area over north Bay of Bengal around Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.
The weather agency has issued a yellow warning of heavy rain for Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Nuapada on July 22-23. Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Ganjam, and Gajapati on these two days.
The warning turns orange from July 24 when heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj and Balasore.
Heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Angul. Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.
Orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph continues for one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, and Bhadrak on July 25.
Heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Sonepur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, and Boudh. The intensity of rain is likely with decrease on July 26 with yellow warning of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Kalahandi.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph may also prevail along & off Odisha coasts, West Bengal & Bangladesh coasts from July 24-28, when the sea conditions is likely to be rough to very rough. Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea in these regions during this period.
