Bhubaneswar: With a fresh low-pressure area brewing over Bay of Bengal, heavy to very heavy rain is likely to batter several parts of Odisha over the next four days.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday that heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm activity with lightning may occur in Odisha till September 3.
A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal around September 2, it said.
In next 24 hours, heavy Rain and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput. The weather agency has issued a yellow warning for these districts.
Similarly, thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Nabarangpur, and Malkangiri during the period.
On Sept 1-2, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Koraput.
Yellow warning of heavy rain, thunderstorm, lightning and gusty surface wind was issued for the districts of Rayagada, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Balangir, and Nuapada.
Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, and Boudh.
On Sept 2-3, orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Kalahandi.
Yellow warning was issued for the districts of Nuapada, Balangir, Sundargarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Cuttack, and Rayagada.
Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sonepur.
On Sept 3-4, heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, and Sundargarh. Yellow warning was issued for these districts.
Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, and Kandhamal.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph may prevail along and off Odisha coasts and over North Bay of Bengal during September 2-4. Sea condition is very likely to be moderate to rough.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coasts and over North Bay of Bengal during September 2 to 4.
