Bhubaneswar: A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over north Bay of Bengal around July 24, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday.
The came a day after the national forecaster, in its extended weather outlook for cyclogenesis, made a similar forecast for July 24-25, stating that the system is unlikely to intensify into a Depression and may move west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha & adjoining Jharkhand and south Chhattisgarh during subsequent 2-3 days.
Meanwhile, heavy rain is expected to resume in Odisha from July 19 with the formation of a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. The monsoon trough is currently passing through Bikaner, Sikar, centre of Depression over northwest Madhya Pradesh & adjoining Southwest Uttar Pradesh, Sidhi, Daltonganj, Purulia, Contai and northeast Bay of Bengal.
The weather agency has forecast thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Ganjam, Gajapati and Balasore districts on July 18.
Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur in several districts across the state from July 19-24.
Yellow warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Angul, Sambalpur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Rayagada, Koraput and Gajapati on July 19; Rayagada, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Gajapati on July 20; Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi and Kandhamal on July 21; and Mayurbhanj, KeonjharSonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati and Rayagada on July 22.
Similarly, there is also a warning of thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri on July 19; Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and Ganjam on July 20; Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri on July 21; and Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri on July 22.
Heavy rain may continue at one or two places in districts of the state on July 23-24, it added.
