Fresh Low Pressure Triggers Very Heavy Rain In Odisha; IMD Issues Orange Alert, Squall To Hit Coast
Bhubaneswar: Odisha may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall till July 22 under the influence of a fresh low pressure area over central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal, which is expected to become more marked and move northwestwards towards Odisha coast during next 2 days.
The monsoon trough is also passing through Jaisalmer, Kota, Guna, Mandla, Pendra Road, Odisha’s Gopalpur and thence southeastwards to the centre of the low pressure area over central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal, India Meteorological Department informed on Thursday.
While Bhubaneswar has already experience one or two spells of intense rain, the weather agency has issued orange warning till July 20. There is also a forecast for extremely heavy rainfall in South Odisha on July 19.

JULY 18
Orange warning
Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) may occur at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam.
Yellow Warning
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is also likely at one or two places in Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Khurda, Nayagarh and Puri.
JULY 19
Orange warning
Scattered heavy to very heavy falls (7 to 20 cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (> 20cm) may occur in Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Koraput. Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is also likely at one or two places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Boudh and Puri.
Yellow Warning
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is also likely at one or two places in Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Nayagarh, Khurda, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, and Cuttack.
JULY 20
Orange warning
Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) may occur at one or two places in Boudh, Sonepur and Nayagarh.
Yellow Warning
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is also likely at one or two places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Khurda, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, and Jajpur.
JULY 21
Yellow Warning
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) may occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Deogarh.
JULY 22
Yellow Warning
Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) may continue at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh.
WIND WARNING
Squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph very likely over deep sea area of central Bay of Bengal adjoining North Bay of Bengal on July 18 nd along & off Odisha coast and North Bay of Bengal adjoining west central Bay of Bengal from July 19-22.
SEA CONDITION
Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough over deep sea area of central Bay of Bengal adjoining North Bay of Bengal on July 18 and along & off Odisha coast and North Bay of Bengal adjoining west central Bay of Bengal from July 19-22.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea are of central adjoining north Bay of Bengal on July 18 and along and off Odisha coast, north Bay of Bengal adjoining West central Bay of Bengal from July 19-22.
The IMD has also warned of temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas and underpass road. Poor visibility during intense spell of rain and traffic congestion in urban areas. Some damages to kutchha Road and possibility of wall collapse in vulnerable kutchha houses. Some damages to vegetables and horticultural crops likely.”Avoid staying in vulnerable kutchha houses. Advisory on traffic congestion may be followed before leaving for your destination. Arrangement for drainage of excess water from nursery bed, preparations for sowing of paddy crops, seed collections may be done,” it added.
