Fresh Manipur Violence: Houses Burnt In Imphal, Policemen’s Weapons Snatched
Imphal: Incidents of ethnic strife may have lessened in the last few weeks, but tension continues to simmer in Manipur.
In fresh violence, unidentified men torched three abandoned houses at New Lambulane locality in capital city Imphal on Sunday afternoon, reported PTI.
The blaze was brought under control by fire engines to ensure minimum damage to nearby houses.
Soon after, hundreds of people gathered at the site and demanded deployment of state and central forces in the locality to ensure security and tension-free return to their homes.
Officials said security forces fired a few rounds of tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
Earlier today, unidentified men snatched three weapons from police personnel deployed to guard the residence of former Health and Family Welfare director K Rajo.
Police said snatched weapons included two AK series rifles and a carbine.
Police have launched operations to retrieve the weapons and apprehend those involved.
