Bhubaneswar: For social worker Jyotsna Mohanty, it is virtually a new lease of life. From the brink of almost starvation, she has not only established herself as a succesful entrepeneur but also ensured a secured future for her two children. And she gives the entire credit for her new life to actor Sabyasachi Mishra.
Jyotsna’s life turned upside down when her husband left her and their two children nine years back. She managed to look after the children somehow with the help of her brothers.
Having a passion for helping the poor and needy people, she continued her social service even in her difficult time. But the COVID-19 pandemic rendered another major blow to her life.
The woman, who was helping the needy people selflessly, started struggling for her survival of her children.
“I had married in a rich family. After some years, my husband left me and our two children. Then I took help from my brothers who have small shops in Puri. I was also earning a little by helping others,” Jyotsna said.
“When lockdown was imposed due to the COVID-19, my brothers’ business stopped and they sustained huge loss. I couldn’t go out. I was not able to arrange meals for my children also,” she said.
Unfortunately, she had to also stop her social work she had been doing for the last 12 years.
Jyotsna had to leave the house where she was staying as she couldn’t give the rent. With the help of local MLA, she stayed in a dilapidated house near the ward office in GGP Colony in Rasulgarh area.
With nobody to turn to, she approached Sabyasachi. “I requested Sabyasachi to help me. I wanted to do something for my family. When he came to know that I am a good cook, he bought utensils and ration for me. With his help, I started a canteen 10 days back,” said Jyotsna.
“With his help, now I am getting about 20 orders per day. People are ordering more for corona scare,” she said with a smile.
Sabysachi has also mentioned about Jyotsna and her condition in a tweet. “Jyotsna Mohanty of BBSR GGP colony. Corona crisis brought her to the road. She asked for ration and financial help. But to make her independent, I tried an experiment by providing them a source of income by purchasing mass cooking equipments & raw materials to start a canteen,” Sabyasachi tweeted.

He has also provided Jyotsna Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for sanitisation and safety.
Jyotsna has named the canteen as ‘Sabyasachi Canteen’. Now she is trying to contact hostels and mess to deliver food.
“Sabyasachi Mishra is my brother now. For him only, I have become self-dependent. I want to open a hotel in future and give employment to the women like me,” said Jyotsna.
“My daughter is studying in Class VIII and son in Class VI. I don’t have a house to live. If people will help me in someway, I can open a big hotel in future,” she added.
“I want to give a message to the women like me that they should have patience and courage to live the life. I have struggled a lot for the last nine years for the survival of my kids. I cannot see the plight of women. I am always ready to help them,” said Jyotsna.
