Bhubaneswar: The response of frontline workers to Covaxin in the Odisha capital has been better than those of healthcare workers (HCWs).
“We expect to achieve the target of vaccinating all the registered frontline workers within the stipulated time and then use our resources for inoculating HCWs with the second dose from February 15,” additional district urban public health officer CVSN Rao told The Times of India.
Of the total 20,345 registered frontline workers, 9699 had been vaccinated till Friday. The drive began on February 6 and close to 1100 are being inoculated a day. There has been zero absenteeism among the frontline workers, compromising police, fire services personnel and civil body and revenue department personnel.
In the last 27 days, 20,133 HCWs have received the COVID-19 vaccine.
Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Pradipta Mohapatra told the national daily that Bhubaneswar had seen maximum reluctance among HCWs for Covaxin. “Some reluctance has been seen in Cuttack also though it has been allotted Covashield,” he added.
