Bhubaneswar: Protesting the steep hike in the prices of petrol and diesel, a delegation of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Thursday met Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal at the Raj Bhawan and submitted a memorandum addressed to the President of India.
In the memorandum, the BJD has urged the President to put pressure on the BJP government at the Centre to bring down the price of the fuel.
“Since the day the BJD government has come to the power at the Centre, the price of the fuel has gone out of control which has put an additional financial burden on the people. We urged the Governor to convey the plight of the people of Odisha to the President on this issue,” BJD leader Prasanna Acharya said.
In his reaction, BJP state unit general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan said the BJD leaders are well aware of the fact that the steep hike in the fuel price in the international market has not only hurt Odisha but also the entire country as well as countries across the globe.
He, however, said the fuel price would come down if the state governments come up with a proposal to include fuel under the GST purview at the GST Council meeting.
