Full Emergency At Delhi Airport After Plane Suffers Bird Strike

New Delhi: A full emergency was declared at Delhi airport on Saturday afternoon after a Dubai-bound FedEx aircraft suffered a bird hit shortly after take-off.

The emergency ensured that the aircraft could turn back and land at the airport for technicians to check the plane whether there was any technical glitch before giving it clearance to fly back.

According to airport authorities, the bird strike took place at a height of 1,000 feet.

“Dubai FedEx flight was involved in air turnback due to a suspected bird hit at 1,000 ft today. Delhi airport (DIAL) declared an emergency. Aircraft landed back safely. After inspection, it has been released for flight,” ANI quoted Direct General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official as saying.

Bird-hit incidents of planes, which are not uncommon, can pose major technical challenges and prove to be fatally dangerous.

Last month, two Air Asia flights had to make emergency landing at Bhubaneswar airport following bird hits after taking off from Biju Patnaik International Airport.
