Bhubaneswar: With winter chill tightening its grip over Odisha, G Udayagiri, the hill station in Kandhamal, continued to be the coldest place in the state for the third day recording 4.6 degree Celsius on Saturday.
The other places, where mercury plummeted to 10 degree Celsius and below in the last 24 hours are Semiliguda (5.5 degree Celsius) Phulbani (7.5 degree C), Rourkela (8.7 degree), Koraput (8.8 degree), Jharsuguda and Angul (9), Daringibadi (9.5), Bhawanipatna and Chiplima (9.9 degree) and and Keonjhar (10.4).
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state capital of Bhubaneswar recorded the season’s lowest temperature of 12.7 degrees Celsius, 2.3 degree below normal. Night temperature plummeted by 1.3 degrees in the city which had recorded 14 degree C the previous night.
Similarly, Cuttack city also shivered under intense cold as the temperature dropped to 12.4 degrees Celsius. As per the weather agency, the temperature in the twin cities would be hovering around 13 to 14 degrees Celsius for the next one week.
The weather department also stated that the intense cold is likely to persist for at least the next two days. Following that period, a respite is likely as temperatures may rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the subsequent three days.
Amid intense cold, light to moderate fog was witnessed on Saturday morning and is expected to persist on Sunday in Anugul, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Cuttack, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts.
