Hyderabad: Top Maoist leader Muppala Lakshman Rao alias Ganapathy, the mastermind behind the kidnap of then collector of Malkangiri in Odisha Vineel Krishna in 2011, is expected to surrender to police in Telangana.
The Maoists had kidnapped Krishna and a junior engineer on February 20. After keeping them in captivity for 10 days, the Maoists released them.
The collector’s release preceded three days of hectic negotiations during which the state government accepted eight of the 14 demands of the Maoists.
Ganapthy also played a major role in stalling the construction work of the crucial Gurupriya Setu to serve as a link between the cut-off areas and mainland in Malkangiri.
