Gandhis Don’t Quit: Sonia
New Delhi: As crisis within the Congress party is deepening by the hour with party chief Rahul Gandhi’s apparent insistence on quitting, reports have emerged that Sonia Gandhi is vehemently opposing the idea.
She even went to the extent of saying during Congress working committee meeting last week that “Gandhis don’t quit”.
Former Union Finance Minister Chidambaram joined her saying that cadres would commit suicide if Rahul resigns.
Since no decision was taken at the meeting, CWC members assumed Rahul would eventually drop the idea. But he is holding his ground.
Priyanka met her brother on Tuesday morning amid speculation that Rahul may not wait for the next CWC meeting on coming Friday before stepping down.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashol Gehlot and his deputy sachin Pilot also met Rahul during the day to discuss the poll debacle. Rahul has been critical of the Congress leadership in Rajasthan for failing to leverage on the party’s success in the Assembly elections. The party has drawn a blank in the state in the Lok Sabha polls.
