Kendrapada: Charred body of a man found in a forest in Tamaka area of Odisha’s Jajpur district recently has been identified as that of gangster Bibhu Sahoo, who was kidnapped at gunpoint on May 31.
The body, charred beyond recognition, was identified by Bibhu’s wife Soudamini from his prosthetic left eye, sources said.
The 52-year-old gangster was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint from Bhagabanpur village in Marshaghai area of Kendrapada district on May 31 evening. Soudamini filed an FIR in Marshaghai police station the same night alleging that her husband was abducted by unidentified miscreants when he was sitting near an under-construction water tank in the village.
Police subsequently learnt about the recovery of a burnt body in a forest in Tamaka area of Jajpur district on June 1. A police team from Marshaghai rushed to Tamaka for further probe. During postmortem of the body, doctors found a prosthetic eye which was identified by Bibhu’s wife.
The body was prime facie identified as that of Bibhu through his prosthetic eye. However, a DNA test will be conducted to confirm the identity, Jajpur SP Vinit Agrawal was quoted by TNIE as saying.
Soudamini said though she identified the body on June 3, police are yet to collect DNA samples of her son and the younger brother of Bibhu to ascertain his identity. She also lamented that the killers of her husband are roaming free and sought steps to arrest them.
Tamaka IIC Sukant Patra said the case will be transferred to Kendrapada police as the deceased was allegedly kidnapped from there and his wife filed an FIR in Marshaghai police station.
Going by reports, Bibhu was involved in many criminal cases including murder, extortion, tender fixing, robbery and theft in the district and other parts of the state.
