Koraput: In a major crackdown on narcotic smugglers, police seized huge quantities of ganja worth more than Rs 50 lakh near Nuanput village in Odisha’s Koraput district on Tuesday.
The seizure was made when the ganja was being transported in a cement-laden truck, while the smugglers managed to flee the spot and efforts are on to nab them.
Acting on an information, police personnem from Machhkund, Jollaput and Lamtaput carried out a raid and intercepted the truck carrying cement packets.
During search of the vehicle, police found ganja packed in 20 large bags which together weighed 5.2 quintal. The cost of the siezed contraband is estimated to be over Rs 50 lakh.
The ganja was about to be transported to outside Odisha, police said, adding that the truck has been seized and efforts are being made to apprehend those involved in the racket.
