Ganja Worth Rs 2.15 Crore Seized In Odisha’s Malkangiri; Smugglers Escape
Malkangiri: In a success against ganja smuggling, police seized more than 2,000 kg cannabis valued at over Rs 2 crore from a forest in Chitrakonda area of Odisha’s Malkangiri district.
Acting on a tip-off about smuggling of ganja, a team of police personnel from Chitrakonda carried out a raid in the forest near Sangmaguda village under Chitrakonda block late on Saturday night.
As soon as the police team reached a hideout, the smugglers present at the site managed to escape. They disappeared deep into the forest taking advantage of darkness, leaving behind the ganja packed in a large number of sacks.
The police seized the ganja weighing around 2,152 kg from the spot. The total value of the seized contraband was estimated to be around Rs 2.15 crore in the open market, police said.
Chitrakonda Police registered a case and launched an investigation. The case was registered under various sections of IPC and NDPS Act, and efforts are on to nab the smugglers, a senior police official said.
