Ganjam Leads Odisha’s Solar Transition; 2943 Consumers Get Zero Electricity Bills In May

Solar rooftop installation in Ganjam

Berhampur: Ganjam has emerged as one of Odisha’s leading solar districts.

Underscoring the growing success of rooftop solar adoption in the region, a total of 2,943 consumers recorded zero electricity bills in May, while 11,187 rooftop solar systems have been installed under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) Model.

Of the total rooftop solar systems installed in Ganjam, 7,085 have been under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, and 4102 commissioned through TPSODL’s Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) Model, which simplifies the adoption process for consumers and facilitates access to rooftop solar solutions.

Reflecting the increasing interest among consumers, 16,760 applications have been received from Ganjam district under the scheme.

Across Southern Odisha, TPSODL has facilitated installation of 16,756 roo

ftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Under the ULA Model, the utility has enabled at Rs 1,875 for a 1 kW rooftop solar installation for a domestic consumer, thus accelerating the region’s shift towards clean and sustainable energy.

Trilochan Mallick of Belaguntha in Bhanjanagar shared his experience of installing a rooftop solar system.

“With the support of TPSODL, I installed a 3 kW rooftop solar system under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Earlier, my monthly electricity bill used to be between Rs 600 and Rs 800. After the installation, my bill has come down to zero. It is a great benefit for my family,” he revealed.

TPSODL CEO Amit Kumar Garg said the fact that nearly 3,000 consumers in Ganjam received zero electricity bills in a single month demonstrates the tangible benefits of rooftop solar adoption.

“The enthusiastic response from consumers reflects the success of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and growing confidence in clean energy solutions. We remain committed to enabling more households to harness solar power and contribute to a sustainable and energy-secure future for Odisha,” Garg said.

In an effort to accelerate rooftop solar adoption, TPSODL has been conducting consumer awareness programmes, community outreach initiatives and stakeholder engagement activities across its operational area so that more households can avail of the benefits of solar energy and government subsidies under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
