Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the second-round elections in Odisha, Rs 4 lakh and gold weighing 1.57 kg stashed in 11 packets were sized from two vehicles at Ambliatha and Laxmannath toll plazas near Jaleswar in Balasore district on Tuesday night.
The estimated value of the seized gold is around Rs 1 crore.
According to sources, a joint team of GST and police intercepted a vehicle en route to Baripada from Kolkata near the West Bengal borders during checking in view of the elections in the state. The occupants of the vehicle were detained at Jaleswar police station for questioning after they failed to produce the necessary documents claimed ownership over the gold seized.
The cops seized Rs 4 lakh from the other vehicle, the sources added.
