Amritsar: The Golden Temple, also known as the Sri Harmandir Sahib, in Amritsar, Punjab, received a second bomb threat via email on Tursday. This was the second such threat within 24 hours. This has resulted in heightened security and panic among locals as well as devotees who throng the shrine – one of the holiest in Sikhism.
Sources revealed that the latest threat claimed pipes filled with RDX would be used to cause an explosion inside the Sanctum Sanctorum. While officials have not released the exact contents of the email for security reasons, emergency protocols were immediately activated.
The Bomb Disposal Squad and sniffer dog units were swiftly deployed to the site. Meanwhile, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Amritsar Police have gone on high alert.
“Additional BSF personnel and police commandos have been stationed around the Golden Temple complex. Entry and exit points are under tight surveillance, and all visitors are being strictly screened,” an official said.
This is the second consecutive day that Sri Harmandir Sahib has been threatened with a bomb via email. The first threat was received on Monday, prompting immediate security measures, which remain in effect.
“We are treating the matter with utmost seriousness and have initiated an investigation to trace the origin of the emails. We urge the public to stay calm but vigilant as security agencies continue to monitor the situation closely. We also request all to co-operate with the authorities,” the official added.
