New Delhi: There is good news for retired people who are seeking opportunities to work.
Come October 1, senior citizens will be able to register on a first-of-its-kind dedicated employment exchange. The Senior Able Citizens for Re-Employment in Dignity (SACRED) virtual platform, to be enabled by Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJ&E), will facilitate those above 60 years of age to search for jobs.
Social Justice and Empowerment secretary R Subrahmanyam stated that the platform will bring together different agencies and companies for providing work opportunities to the elderly.
The ministry has written to Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and Association of Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) to provide employment opportunities for elders.
According to the Social Justice and Empowerment ministry, there will be full-time, part-time, freelance and pro bono work models for senior citizens in the portal.
Like all recruitment sites, recruiters will post jobs or projects with specifications and criteria for those who can apply.
Eligible senior citizens will have to register with their credentials like education, experience, skills and areas of interest.
The portal will act as an enabler for those seeking employment, but can’t guarantee jobs, the ministry clarified.
An inter-ministerial committee, which had earlier been formed to set up the virtual platform, approved Rs 10 crore for the project and Rs 60 crore for creation, maintenance and marketing of the SACRED portal.
