New Delhi: Google is no longer pampering its employees like it used to do once. Free office snacks was one of its ways of keeping employees happy. However, the company is now trying to bring its costs down after laying off thousands of employees earlier this year. And one of the ways is by cutting down on free office snacks like M&Ms, dried mangoes, muffins, onion rings, etc.

A Google employee working at the company’s San Francisco office as a project manager told The Atlantic that ‘they (Google) took away the dried mango’. The employee, who refused to be identified, also revealed that other snacks like Maui-onion chips, muffins and a small bag of M&Ms also disappeared from the company’s San Francisco office.

Commenting on the move, a Google spokesperson told The Atlantic that while some ‘food perks may have been eliminated’, the company will still continue investing in perks for its employees.

“As we’ve consistently said, we set a high bar for industry-leading perks, benefits and office amenities, and will continue that into the future,” the spokesperson named Ryan Lamont said, according to an India Today report.

Google announced laying off 12,000 people in January this year.
