Google on Saturday created a doodle on its search homepage to honour Bollywood actor Amrish Puri on his 87th birth anniversary.
One of Hindi cinema’s iconic figures, Amrish Puri, was known for roles like Mogambo in ‘Mr India’ and Simran’s father in ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’.
Known for his villainous laugh, Amrish had also made his way into Hollywood. He had played a supporting role in ‘Gandhi’ and the main villain in ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’. Besides, he had worked in more than 200 Indian films.
Director Steven Spielberg had even said, “Amrish is my favorite villain. The best the world has ever produced and ever will.”
Born in Punjab on June 22, 1932, Puri landed his first role at the age of 39 and went on to portray some of the most memorable villains in the history of Indian cinema.
His deep-voiced deliveries made him the symbol of negative roles in Hindi cinema. His lines “Mogambo khush hua” and “Ja Simran Jaa, jee le apni zindagi” have attained cult status.
The legendary actor died on December 27, 2004 after suffering from myelodysplastic syndrome.
