Berhampur: Gopalpur Ports Ltd (GPL) in Odisha’s Ganjam district organised a mobile health check-up camp to provide quality healthcare to the people living in the periphery of the port.
The health camp was organised under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of the GPL at Government Upper primary School in Kalipali panchayat. Inaugurating the camp, VJ Rao, Chief Executive Officer, GPL said the port is committed to ensuring the good health of the people in the port periphery. “We are happy to contribute back to the community under our CSR platform,” he added.
Ajay Kumar Mishra, vice-president (HR/IR) said the CSR programme will be accelerated and more care taken towards education and environmental protection of the port peripheral.
More than 300 people from different villages under the panchayat consulted the doctors about health issues free of cost at the camp. Free medicines were also distributed among them. The villagers, elected representatives and intellectuals hailed the efforts of the port authorities.
Among others, Kalipalli sarpanch B Lakshmi Patra, nominee Vikas Behera, union leader and social worker Shankar Dash, president of Kalipalli Government Upper Primary School Ardarju Babu, Chamakhandi sarpanch CH Manoj Reddy, Sriramchandrapur sarpanch S Sanjeev Reddy, Kalippalli Village Committee Member, AVP (HR/IR) Chitaranjan Bahinipati and port officials were present on the occasion.
A health awareness street play, prepared by the staff of Gopalpur Port, was also performed. In this play, the audience was told how to stay away from superstitions and what to do in case of any health issues and how to keep their surroundings clean.
Recently, the port authorities had held a health check-up lab for the people in the area under its CSR programme.
