Guwahati: After the casteism slur, there is another complaint against Anushka Sharma’s Paatal Lok. A Gorkha community group has filed a complaint against the actor-producer over some remarks made on the community members in the web series.
The All Arunachal Pradesh Gorkha Youth Association filed an online complaint with the National Human Right Commission (NHRC) on May 18 over the alleged “sexist slur” made against the community in the web series, reported NDTV.
The Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh (BhaGoYuP), the youth wing of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh, had also started an online campaign. They wanted a particular scene to be muted and the corresponding sub-title to be uploaded again with a disclaimer.
The group alleged that there are objectionable remarks in the series against a woman character. The character’s name suggests that she belongs to the Khasi community of Meghalaya.
“Such stereotyping not only maligns the community as a whole but normalises such racism as a standard practice for the people. It sets a distorted image among people regarding a certain community, the brunt of which, the people living there have to face,” NDTV quoted Nanda Kirati Dewan, president of the Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh as saying
The Gorkha groups have also threatened legal action against Anushka.
