Chennai: The ongoing Chief Minister versus Governor battle in Tamil Nadu was escalated further on Sunday as MK Stalin wrote to President Droupadi Murmu against the conduct of RN Ravi and sought his dismissal for his ‘political slant’.
Governor Ravi recently fired minister V Senthil Balaji after Balaji was arrested in the cash-for-job scam. However, the order was withdrawn hours later as questions were raised about whether the Governor could take the decision without consulting the chief minister.
The CM mentioned this incident and other ‘violations’ by the Governor in his letter to the President, emphasising that the latter has breached his oath of office by acting against the state’s people and interests, and against the Constitution.
“By way of his behaviour and action, the Governor has proved to be partial and ineligible to hold the office of Governor. Ravi qualifies to be removed from the high office,” Stalin wrote.
The CM further wrote that he was leaving the decision of whether Ravi’s continuation in the post would be desirable or suitable, considering the sentiments and dignity of the founding fathers of India’s Constitution, to the President.
The BJP gave a point-by-point rebuttal to Stalin, with the party’s Tamil Nadu chief K Annamalai calling it a “cry note of corrupt Stalin”.
