New Delhi: The Centre has intensified its crackdown on illegal online gambling and betting by blocking over 300 websites and apps in the latest drive.
Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology sources said that the platforms include online sports betting websites, online casinos offering slots, roulette and live dealer tables, and betting exchanges that function as peer-to-peer marketplaces.
Action has also been reportedly taken against satta and matka gambling networks.
Around 8,400 such websites have been blocked so far, of which 4,900 were taken down after the passage of the Online Gaming Act.
The move is part of a broader initiative to purify the digital ecosystem and shield users — particularly the vulnerable — from scams, financial losses, and addictive behaviours.
