Govt Employee Conned On Facebook: Fraudster Tried To Extract Money After Opening His Fake Account
Bhubaneswar: A contractual State Government employee woke up startled upon getting one call after another from friends and relatives inquiring about his father’s health on Wednesday.
It didn’t take him much time to find out that someone had opened a fake Facebook account in his name and sent messages on his FB wall requesting a loan of Rs 7000 for the victim’s father. The fraudster wrote that the victim’s father had heart disease and was in hospital.
“He used one of my photos as a display picture and cover photo on the fake Facebook profile. He also uploaded many of my photos with my friends to make it appear like a genuine profile and shared his UPI ID too,” the victim told The New Indian Express.
The fraudster deactivated the fake profile as soon as the victim posted an alert message. “There are many government officials, relatives and friends on my contact list. I am not sure if anyone transferred money,” he said. He said he would file a formal complaint with Nayapalli police.
