Bhubaneswar: In view of intense heatwave condition in Odisha, the state government has extended the summer vacation of the schools.
The School and Mass Education department, in a notification on Friday, said all schools will reopen after summer holidays on June 21.
The vacation was scheduled to end on June 17 which is Saturday and the schools to reopen on Monday. The schools were closed for the summer vacation on April 21 in view of the heatwave conditions in the state.
Almost entire state continues to be under the grip of intense heat with as many as 31 places recording temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more on Friday.
While Bhubaneswar recorded 44.6 degree Celsius, 3 western Odisha town sizzled with mercury breaching 45 degree. Sonepur recorded 45.6 degree Celsius. followed by Jharsuguda with 45.4 and Balangir at 45.3 degree.
