‘Govt Framing Me’, Says RG Kar Rape-Murder Accused; Charges Drawn Up, Trial To Star On Nov 11
Kolkata: Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect in the brutal rape and murder of a Kolkata doctor, on Monday claimed that he’s being framed.
Even as charges were framed against him and the trial is set to begin, Roy reiterated his innocence as he made some startling claims.
“I have done nothing… I have been framed in this case. Nobody is listening to me. The government is framing me and threatening me not to open my mouth,” Roy screamed in Bengali at television cameras while he was being taken out from Sealdah court to the waiting prison van by police.
He kept screaming even after boarding the van.
“I have been intimidated and framed. I told the judge that I am innocent, but I was taken away,” Roy cried from the window of the police van.
The body of a junior doctor was found in a semi-naked state at the state-run RG Kar Medical College & Hospital on August 9.
The incident sent shockwaves across the country and sparked a massive protest by Bengal’s junior doctors, which had a ripple effect in several other states.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which took over the investigation from Kolkata Police on August 14 following Calcutta High Court’s order, named Roy as the only accused and framed charges under BNS sections 103(2), 64, 66 against the civic volunteer.
Roy was arrested by Kolkata Police the day after the gruesome murder.
