New Delhi: The Centre on Monday said the users of Arogya Setu can ask for deletion of their data stored in the app as per the new protocols.
The government’s announcement has come in the wake of criticism of the violation of privacy by some digital rights activists. They pointed out that the details of the app users can be accessed within 100 km radius.
The government launched the app in April for contract tracing in the wake of spread of coronavirus. But now it is used for providing various other activities including e-pass, telemedicine and others, the critics said.
The new set of protocols was issued to only store the data about the user’s name, mobile number, age, gender, profession and travel history, IT ministry sources said. The app will be used to implement the government’s health response to Covid-19, they added.
