Bhubaneswar: The state government offices will remain closed for three days for Raja festival in Odisha’s Khurda district.
The Khurda information and public relations officer, in an official notification, has stated that all the government offices in the district on the last day of the three festival on June 16.
The officer has issued the notification as per the power vested in him by the Revenue and Disaster Management department to declare one day in a year as optional holiday.
Earlier, the government had declared that its offices will remain closed due to Raja on June 14 and 15.
Primarily an agrarian festival, Raja is celebrated with fervour by young girls and women across all classes in rural as well as urban areas of Odisha.
The three days of the festival are referred to as Pahili Raja, Raja Sankranti and Bhuin Daaha (Sesa Raja). Mother Earth is given complete rest for three days and hence no agricultural activity like ploughing and sowing is undertaken during the festival.
