Govt Official Consumes Poison Inside Office Over Transfer In Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: An official working in a block office in Odisha’s Ganjam district allegedly attempted to commit suicide over his transfer on Thursday.

According to sources, the official, Pramod Kumar Patnaik, was working as GPO in Bhanjanagar block office in the district. He was transferred to Patrapur on January 30. He had expressed his resentment over the transfer to some of his colleagues, the sources said.

Pramod came to the office to hand over the charge and went to the conference hall on the office premises. Later, some employees found him lying on the floor and shaking vigorously. He reportedly told them that he had consumed poison.

The employees rushed him to a hospital in Bhanjanagar. Later, he was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhmapur as his condition deteriorated. His condition was critical, the hospital sources said.
