Govt Officials Demanding Commission For Works Under MLALD Fund, Says Odisha Cong MLA

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Congress MLA Mohammed Moquim has alleged that the state government officials were demanding commission even for the works taken up with MLALD fund.

Speaking to media persons on Saturday, the MLA from Barabati-Cuttack, came down heavily on the government stating that corruption has taken deep roots in the administration. The PC (per cent or bribe) culture has become so rampant that even the MLAs are not spared, he said.

“Chief Minister remains inaccessible to the commonman who is the worst sufferer under the present dispensation. It is common knowledge that no government related work can be done without coughing up an amount for the officials,” the MLA said.

Moquim alleged that the government officials are demanding 10-12 per cent of the bills submitted for the works executed with the money from the Member of Legislative Assembly Local Area Development (MLALAD) fund. “If the MLAs have to pay the commission for the utilisation of his fund, one can imagine the condition of the common people,” he added.

It may be noted that Moquim was issued show-cause notice by the Congress for anti-party activities last month. The disciplinary committee of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) issued the notice to the MLA for violating the party discipline and asked him to explain as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.

He was issued the notice for his statement against the party affairs and organisation at an event held in Bhubaneswar ahead of the Jharsuguda Assembly by-election.
