New Delhi: Coronavirus cases in India are doubling every 4.1 days, informed Lav Agarwal, joint secretary of the Union health ministry, on Sunday.
The rate of doubling would have been 7.4 days if the Nizamuddin congregation hadn’t have taken place, he explained, reiterating that the religious event accounts for around 35 per cent of positive cases in India.
“If it were not for the congregation, India’s rate of doubling — that is in how many days the cases have doubled — would have been 7.4 days,” Agarwal said.
The total number of positive cases in India is currently 3,374, with the death toll being 79. In the last 24 hours, 472 new Covid-19 cases and 11 deaths have been reported, informed Agarwal.
