Govt Support For Children Orphaned Due To COVID-19
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced support for children, who have lost both parents or surviving parent or legal guardian or adoptive parents due to COVID-19 pandemic, through the PM CARES for Children scheme.
The scheme is accessible through the portal — pmcaresforchildren.in.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development has been implementing an existing centrally-sponsored programme called Child Protection Services (CPS) scheme, under which support is provided to state and union territory governments for delivering services for children in need of care and who are in difficult circumstances.
Child Care Institutions (CCIs), established under CPS scheme, support age-appropriate education, access to vocational training, recreation, health care, counselling etc.
A sum of Rs 2000 per child per month is given to children in need of care and protection, while maintenance grant of Rs 2160 is provided to every child per month for those living in CCIs.
Women and Child Development minister Smriti Irani informed in Lok Sabha on Friday that applications of such children are uploaded on the portal by the respective state/UT governments.
