Mumbai: Mukesh Ambani moved closer to the $100 billion club as his wealth jumped to $92.6 billion following a surge in the share prices of his flagship Reliance Industries, according to the latest Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
The price surge came after Ambani promised to “aggressively pursue” clean-energy goals. As a result, Ambani added $3.7 billion to his net worth on Friday.
Ambani, who is Asia’s wealthiest person, is now closing in on L’Oreal tycoon Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, who is worth $92.9 billion.
Earlier this year, the Reliance boss had unveiled an ambitious plan to invest $10 billion in clean energy, marking a new pivot for India’s most valuable company.
This is also in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambition to combat climate change and slash imports in the country, which is the world’s third-biggest oil consumer.
