Bhubaneswar: Power consumers in Odisha are most likely to pay more for their electricity bills. The state-run Grid Corporation of Odisha (Gridco) has requested the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) to reconsider its decision to not hike the power tariff in the current financial year.
Sources said Gridco had requested for a tariff hike on August 20 by citing huge revenue loss in transmission and distribution (T&D) of power.
However, Energy Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra said OERC will decide on the matter by keeping the people’s interest in mind.
At present, the monthly power tariff in the state is Rs 2.50 per unit for the first 50 units and Rs 4.30 per unit above 50 units and up to 200 units. Those who consume more than 200 units of electricity but less than 400 units, pay Rs 5.30 per unit. The rate is Rs 5.70 for consumption of more than 400 units.
On May 23, OERC had decided to keep the tariff unchanged for the 2019-20 financial year.
