Amravati: A wedding at Amravati, Maharashtra, turned into a crime scene with one of the guests attacking the groom with a knife. The entire episode was captured on video by a drone being used to record the celebrations.
The drone operator did not stop at that. He used the unmanned aerial vehicle to chase the accused for two km and captured more footage.
The recordings have now been taken over by the police and will be used as vital evidence in court.
The incident occurred around 9.30 pm at Sahil Lawn on Badnera Road, where 22-year-old Sujal Ram Samudra, was getting married. There seems to have been a dispute between him and a guest, named Ragho Jitendra Bakshi, over the music being played by the DJ.
Bakshi then climbed the dais where Samudra was standing and attacked him with a knife, injuring him severely in the thigh and knee.
According to eyewitnesses, even as the groom collapsed and panic broke out among the guests, the drone pilot continued recording and even chased the attacker, capturing his movements over a distance of nearly two kilometres before getting out of range.
The police have claimed that the footage clearly shows the face of the accused and reveals the manner in which he escaped. Officials have described it as a major piece of evidence in the case.
The video shows the attacker in an orange hoodie first striking the groom and then running out of the lawn to a motorcycle parked outside. Another individual, in black, also left the venue with the accused. The two then left on the motorcycle. A relative of the couple attempted to chase them but to no avail.
