Cuttack: The Peace Committee meeting convened by Cuttack district administration in the wake of a group clash that erupted between the locals of Narendrapur and Kakudiapara villages under Nemala police limits in Cuttack district remained successful.
The residents of both the villages assured that peace and harmony will be restored in the locality. The meeting was held in the presence of the sub-collector and police personnel.
“Although the meeting was successful, it has been decided that prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC will remain in force till further orders,” a police officer informed.
The Commissionerate Police had on Tuesday detained five persons in connection with a group clash that took place the previous day.
Central Range IG, Soumendra Priyadarshi and Cuttack Rural SP, Madhav Chandra Sahoo visited the site where the clash took place and requested the villagers to maintain peace in the locality.
The district administration had on Monday clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC at Narendrapur after an irate mob torched a police jeep following the clash.
According to information, two youths got into a heated argument on the issue of overtaking on the road. One of them called his associates from Kakudiapada village. Later, they barged into the other youth’s house and attacked him. A woman and a minor boy were also injured in the attack.
