GST Collection At All-Time High In December: Govt

New Delhi: The Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in December 2020 registered a record high of over Rs 1.15 lakh crore, the Union Finance Ministry said on Friday.

In fact, the revenues for the month were 12 per cent higher than the GST collection in December 2019.

“This is the highest growth in monthly revenues for the last 21 months. This has been due to combined effect of the rapid economic recovery post-pandemic and the nation-wide drive against GST evaders and fake bills along with many systemic changes introduced recently, which have led to improved compliance,” the ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, the integrated GST for December 2020 stood at Rs 57,426 crore (including Rs 27,050 crore collected on import of goods) and cess at Rs 8,579 crore (including Rs 971 crore collected on import of goods).

The total number of GSTR-3B returns filed for the month of November up till December 31, 2020, was 87 lakh.

As per figures released by the ministry, Odisha witnessed a year on year growth of 20 per cent in GST revenue collection during December 2020. The state’s collection during the month was Rs 2,860 crore as against Rs 2,383 crore in December 2019.
