Bhubaneswar: Many household items, hotels, and bank services, among other things, will become costlier from Monday with the GST Council approving changes in the tax rates on some goods and services with a view to rationalising the levy.
Items and services that will now attract GST
>> Pre-packed and labelled meat (except frozen), fish, curd, lassi, paneer, honey, dried leguminous vegetables, dried makhana, wheat and other cereals, wheat or meslin flour, jaggery, puffed rice (mudhi), all goods and organic manure and coir pith compost will now attract a 5 per cent tax. Earlier, these items were exempt from the ambit of GST.
>> Machines used for cleaning, sorting, grading seeds, and grain pulses; machines used in milling/cereals industry; air-based atta chakki and wet grinder will attract an 18 per cent levy.
>> LED lamps, knives with cutting blades, paper knives, pencil sharpeners and blades, spoons, forks, ladles, skimmers, cake servers, printing, writing and drawing ink, fixture and their metal printed circuits board have been placed under the 18 per cent GST slab.
>> 18 per cent GST will be imposed on fees charged by banks for issuing cheques (loose or in book form).
>> Hospital room rents (excluding ICU) exceeding Rs 5000 per day per patient will be taxed.
>> A 12 per cent tax on hotel rooms below Rs 1,000 per day will be levied, as against a tax exemption currently.
>> Maps and charts, including atlases, will be charged with GST at a rate of 12 per cent.
>> Solar water heater and system by 12 per cent
>> Leather (prepared, finished, chamois and composition) by 12 per cent
>> Power-driven pumps primarily designed for handling water such as centrifugal pumps, deep tube-well turbine pumps, submersible pumps; Bicycle pumps by 18 per cent
>> Rate on works contract for roads, bridges, railways, metro, effluent treatment plant and crematorium has been increased to 18 per cent from 12 per cent.
>> 18 per cent GST on work contract for historical monuments, canals, dams, pipelines, plants for water supply, educational institutions, hospitals supplied to central, state goverments and local authorities and sub-contractor thereof
>> Works contract supplied to central and state governments, union territories & local authorities for earthwork and sub-contracts thereof 12 per cent
States can decide on the threshold above which the electronic bill on the intra-state movement of gold, gold jewellery and precious stones is to be made mandatory.
